   8/19 to 8/23,English Club members started working again on preparation for the High School Musical FINAL film project. We all cooperated and practiced.

   8/19 から 8/23は、HSM動画プロジェクトの後期の準備期間でした。より良い動画が撮影できるよう、みんなで試行錯誤を重ね作品の完成に努めました。

   私たちは撮影に使用する衣装を作りました。リーダー達は作り方を考えたり採寸したりしなければならなかったので、とても大変な仕事だったそうです。

Today, we welcomed two students as special guests -- Kanon, who has just returned from her year-long study abread in Portland, and Daishin, who is about to depart for his year at the same school! Actually, Daishin is a member of the English Club, and we are all so happy for him to have gotten this chance to go to the U.S. In small groups, members asked the two students about what it was like, and how they are feeling now.

今日は特別ゲストの２名に来ていただきました。一人は一年間のポートランド留学から戻ってきたばかりのカノンさんで、もう一人はこれから飛び立ち、同じポートランドの高校に通うダイシンさんです。（ダイシンはイングリッシュ・クラブのメンバーです。彼がアメリカに行くチャンスを掴んだことをクラブ一同嬉しく思っています）グループに分かれ、どうだったか、今どんな気持ちかを聞きました。

At the end, Daishin got to ask Kanon about Portland, the school there, and what he should prepare before going over there.

後半には後輩から先輩にポートランドや向こうの学校、準備していくべきものなどについて詳しく聞きました。

It was Open School at Hokuetsu today. Many junior high school students and their parents came to our Club Performance. (Thank you!) The first year students did a great job doing a recitation of a part of the famous UN speech by Malala. Actually, they did 3 rounds! It was a great experience. Good job, girls!

本日はオープンスクールでした。ありがたいことに、イングリッシュ・クラブの部活動発表会にも多くの中学生と保護者の方が足を運んでくれました。初めての取り組みでしたが、発表をした一年生メンバーはマララさんの国連スピーチの暗誦を見事にやりきりました。実は、３回発表したのですが、彼女たちにとって良い経験となったことでしょう。おつかれさまでした！

It was decided that we would make a sequel to last year's High School Musical video for the Culture Festival this year. To kick off the High School Musical FINAL Project, thhe members held a meeting to assign roles. Some of the staff roles are: Executive Producer, Directors, Storyboard, Dance Leaders, Costume/T-shirt Design, and so on. The Chief Editor and Assistant Editors will be busiest after the filming. Let's make this a good one!

ECは今年の文化祭で、昨年のミュージカル動画「ハイスクール・ミュージカル」の続編を制作することに決まりました。名付けて「High School Musical FINAL」ーーこのプロジェクトを始動するため、それぞれの役割を決める会議が開かれました。役割にはプロデューサー、監督、絵コンテ、ダンスリーダー、衣装・Tシャツデザインなどがあります。編集担当は撮影後が最も忙しいですね。良い作品にしましょう！

Today, we invited Rane for one last visit before she returns to the US. An exchange student through the Rotary Club, Rane has stayed with several host families during her 10-months at Hokuetsu High School. Many English Club members are familiar with her because last year, not only did she share pictures and stories of her life back in the U.S. with the club, she also participated in the Presentation Contest with the E.C. team. We're sad to see Rane go, but we're happy to have met and gotten to know her.

本日はアメリカへの帰国を控えたレインさんをイングリッシュ・クラブに迎えました。レインさんはロータリー・クラブの交換留学生で、複数のホストファミリーの元で過ごしながら北越高校に１０ヶ月間通いました。昨年はECに来て自身のアメリカでの生活について話してくれるだけでなく、ECメンバーと一緒に国際理解教育プレゼンコンテストに出場もしてくれたので、メンバーにはおなじみの彼女です。レインさんが帰ってしまうのはさみしいですが、彼女との出会いに感謝しているメンバーは多いことでしょう。

After Rane gave a presentation on her year in Japan, we broke up into two groups to have a more informal Q&A session. While members in one group spoke to Rane, members in the other group spoke to Chihiro. Chihiro is a returnee student who joined the club this year. She has a unique background, having lived in different countries and attended international school. It was a good opportunity for members to find out more about her experiences as well!

レインさんの日本での一年を振り替えるプレゼンのあと、より近い距離で質問ができるように２つのグループに分かれました。片方のグループがレインさんの話を聞いている間、もう片方のグループはチヒロさんの話を聞きました。実は彼女は帰国生で、今年イングリッシュ・クラブの一員となりました。外国で暮らし、インターナショナル・スクールに通った経験のあるチヒロさんの話は身近にいながらもなかなか聞く機会がないので、生徒にとっても良い刺激でした！

As always, we held a Welcome Picnic for the new club members! Following last year's success, we decided to hold it in the cafeteria. Without worrying about the weather, we can enjoy the feeling of being outdoors. Students had fun interacting in English, getting to know each other through games.

毎年恒例の新入生歓迎ピクニック！昨年に続き、ランチルームを借りて開催しました。天候に左にされず、インドアながらアウトドア気分が楽しめます。英語で交流し、ゲームを楽しみました。

English Club meets twice a week after school on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Since it is possible to be in English Club and participate in other clubs/activities at the same time, we have members who also go to the natural science club or computer club, members who are in a band, members who volunteer, members who participate in Korea-Japan exchanges, members who go on study abroads--and so on and so forth. We encourage students to pursue multiple interests during their 3 years in high school.

イングリッシュ・クラブは基本的に週二日、水曜日と木曜日の放課後に活動をしています。掛け持ちが可能なため、部員の中には自然科学部やパソコン部などの他の部活動にも参加する人や、バンドする人、ボランティアする人、受験勉強を頑張る人、日韓交流イベントに参加する人、海外に短期ホームステイに行く人など、自分の好きなもの・興味あることを複数抱えて高校生活を送っている人がいます。また、体育祭や文化祭などの学校行事の際には進んで実行委員などを引き受ける部員も多いです。

英語や海外の文化を一緒に楽しみたい人は、ぜひ、E.C.へ！

The first two weeks of school, Freshman students can "try-out" at different clubs they may be interested in joining. At English Club, the members taught visiting students how to play a popular English card game, Apples to Apples.

始業式のおよそ２週間後くらいまでは興味がある部活を色々と試せる「部活動体験」期間です。ECではメンバーが体験入部生に英語圏で人気なカードゲーム「アップルズ・トゥ・アップルズ」を教えました。

The students who went on the Boston Trip over Spring Break have come back. Out of the 10 students who participated, 5 are members of English Club. They worked hard to put together a presentation in English sharing about the language school there, their host families, the foods that impressed them most, and so on. Afterwards, we broke up into small groups to hear more about their adventures in Japanese while munching on the American snacks they brought back.

春休みのボストン短期研修に参加した生徒が戻ってきました。参加した１０名の生徒のうち、５名はイングリッシュ・クラブのメンバーです。現地の写真とともに、向こうの語学学校での授業や、ホストファミリーの様子、印象に残った食事などについて頑張って英語でプレゼンしてくれました。発表後は小グループで、お土産のおやつを食べながら日本語でもっと詳しくお話を聞きました。
